What is the BIS Hallmark?
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) hallmark is India's official certification of gold purity. Since June 2021, hallmarking has been mandatory for all gold jewellery sold in India. The hallmark guarantees that the gold is of the declared purity and has been tested at a BIS-recognised Assaying and Hallmarking Centre (AHC).
How to Read the Hallmark (HUID System)
Since 2021, BIS uses the Hallmarking Unique ID (HUID) system. Each piece of jewellery has a unique 6-digit alphanumeric code stamped on it. You can verify any hallmarked jewellery on the BIS Care app using this HUID.
