Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Since September 16, 2021, BIS hallmarking is mandatory for gold jewellery of 14K, 18K, and 22K in India. Since April 1, 2023, only HUID-based hallmarking is accepted.

Download the "BIS Care" app (available on Play Store & App Store). Select "Verify HUID", enter the 6-character HUID printed on your ornament, and the app will show the article details registered with BIS.

Old jewellery bought before 2021 may not have HUID hallmarks. Have it tested at a BIS-recognised Assaying & Hallmarking Centre (AHC) to get it hallmarked. Selling unmarked gold is now illegal for jewellers.
