8-Year Tenure

SGBs have a fixed maturity of 8 years. Early exit is allowed after the 5th year on coupon payment dates.

SGB FAQs

The RBI sets the SGB issue price based on the simple average of the closing price of 999-purity gold in the preceding 3 business days from the date of subscription (IBJA rates). Online investors get an additional ₹50/gram discount.
Early exit is permitted from the 5th year onward on coupon payment dates. You can also sell SGBs on the stock exchange (BSE/NSE) anytime if your SGB is held in Demat form — but exchange liquidity may be low.
Yes. The annual interest of 2.5% is taxable as per your income tax slab (added to income). However, the capital gain at maturity is completely tax-free — this is the biggest SGB advantage.
Resident individuals, HUFs, trusts, universities, and charitable institutions can invest. NRIs are not eligible to invest, though existing SGBs can be held till maturity.
