Calculate Your Bangle Size

Bring all four fingers together tightly. Measure across the widest part of your hand in centimetres — this is your hand breadth / diameter.

Typical range: 5.5cm – 7.5cm

How to Measure Your Bangle Size

1
Make a Cup Shape

Bring your thumb and little finger together to form the narrowest hand shape possible — this is the position you use to slide a bangle on.

🤌
2
Measure the Width

Use a measuring tape to measure across the widest point of your cupped hand in centimetres. Alternatively, wrap a string around and measure that length.

📏
Pro tip: If between sizes, choose the larger size. A bangle that is slightly loose is more comfortable than one that is too tight.

Regional Bangle Traditions in India

🟡
Punjab

Known for thick, heavy gold bangles (kadas) and churis. Worn in stacks for weddings. Typically 2/6 to 2/8 with heavier gauge gold.

🔴
Gujarat

Stackable thin gold bangles (patliya), often 12–24 pieces per arm. Delicate designs with meenakari and enamel work. Multiple thin sizes layered.

Bengal

Shakha (white conch) and pola (red coral) bangles are traditional bridal wear. Also iron loha bangles. Sizes tend to be fitted — exact sizing matters more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bring all four fingers together tightly and measure across the widest part of your hand with a measuring tape. Add 0.5cm for comfort ease. That is your inner bangle diameter. Use the chart above to find your Indian size.
Indian sizes 2/4 and 2/6 are most common, fitting inner diameters of 6.0cm and 6.2cm. These suit the average Indian woman with wrist circumferences of 15–17cm.
The first number (2) is a constant in Indian sizing tradition; the second number indicates the size increment. 2/4 = ~6.0cm inner diameter, 2/6 = ~6.2cm, 2/8 = ~6.4cm — each step is roughly 0.2cm.
A bangle should slide over the knuckles with some resistance but sit comfortably on the wrist without constant slipping. If in doubt, size up — a slightly loose bangle is more comfortable than a tight one for daily wear.
